When is a good time to review or update my insurance coverage?
Insurance is never designed to ‘set it and forget it’ as circumstances and needs change over the course of your life.  The best rule of thumb is to start discussing insurance needs when you experience a life event such as a new baby or a new medical condition.  You should be reviewing your insurance policy with your agent at least once per year.
Do I really need life insurance?
Life insurance is a form of financial protection for your loved ones in the event you pass away.  Not only does it give you peace of mind, but it also allows for your family to mourn as long as they need to without having the extra worry of expenses and having to go back to work when they may not be ready.
How much life insurance do I need?
Agents usually recommend at least 10x your annual salary.  A good way to determine what you really need would be to calculate how much would it cost to pay off all debt, put each child through college and allow for your spouse to take the time off needed.  Life insurance can always be adjusted as life changes happen.
If I don’t pay you anything to help me with insurance, then how do you get paid?
I get paid a commission from the insurance carrier by working directly with you.  An agent or broker should never charge an individual a fee for consulting and enrolling them in insurance.
When reviewing the marketplace options, I see a lot of negative reviews and hear really bad things about the coverage. Are there any good plans available?
Reviews are based on a consumers experience and when an everyday consumer is navigating the complicated marketplace, what they think they are purchasing in coverage is usually not the case.  This is the biggest reason why I push for people to work with an agent or broker directly so that they can thoroughly understand the plan they are enrolling in to avoid the frustrations of health insurance.
I’m being told that I missed the open enrollment window and that I have to wait until the next open enrollment to apply. Is that true?

Open Enrollment for the marketplace is November 1st through December 15th every year, however, a lot of factors come into play that could actually qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period.  Even if you don’t qualify for marketplace coverage, there are numerous other options to get coverage so that you aren’t completely left uninsured waiting on open enrollment.
